[RDD] ubuntu 7.10 and RD no audio Please help ASAP..

Firstof all, thanks for reading this.

Here is my situation. For aprox. the last three months, I have been trying to get a working Rivendell workstation going. Everyone here has been a big help, and I appreciate it greatly. However, I have yet to be able to set up a working Rivendell system. My boss is getting a bit concerned, (understandable..) and I will have to abandon Rivendell if I don't get this going soon.

By way of background, I have tried three different computers, and several different types of hardware. In every case, I install ubuntu 7.10, Mysql, jack, then Rivendell. With every install I can play a CD, as well as a wav file just fine. So that tells me that the audio chain on the PC is working fine. However I can't play any audio from within Rivendell. I am sure that its something I am doing wrong, I just can't seem to figure out what.

Presently, I am using a compaq 2.4 gHz system with 256 Meg of ram / 40G hard drive. it has its own sound card built into the mainboard, and I have tried that w/o success. I have read that RD only works with Sound Blaster cards. So I found one of those, and then did a complete re-install of ubuntu and RD with the Sound Blaster card. As usual, I get audio just fine from other applications, but nothing from RD.

If any of you guru/experts are willing, I do have the ability for people to ssh into my rivendell workstation. I would greatly appreciate any help, as I need to get this going ASAP, or I will be forced to look for another solution.
